The short answer? You can’t.
Sure, you need to have the self-determination to keep going, and the self-efficacy to believe in your abilities to reach your health goals. But nobody can do it all by themselves. Not entirely at least…
It would be very tempting to simply write you an über motivational post, about how you can do it all, and how it’s all down to you! Probably put up a lion picture with a caption like: “You’re the king of this jungle!“. But that would feel dishonest, and I think you deserve better than that.
We don’t often think about it, but there are 100s of people behind everything we do. That banana you’re about to add to your breakfast smoothie? Someone has had to plant, harvest, sort, package, ship, sort again, and then display that banana before you even touch it. Sure these people were paid, but without their efforts you wouldn’t be enjoying your breakfast.
Once you accept that we are all in this together, seeking support for your health goals becomes a lot easier. I get the impression that you may be someone who feels very independent, and wants to do it all themselves. I commend you, but as one of those people myself, I know how hard it is. Why make it harder for yourself, and increase the likelihood of failing?
You have to engage in the health behaviours yourself, in order to see the results you want. There is no denying that. But sometimes seeking out support to engage in these behaviours is needed, and there is no shame in that. As human beings we need mental and emotional support, words of encouragement, or sometimes a bit of healthy competition.
This is why most people who are successful in achieving their health goals have a support system to help them. That could be through hired help, via a health coach or personal trainer. Or it could be seeking out other people on the same journey as you, and building each other up. Maybe I am that person for you. If that’s the case, stick around and I will do my best to help.
