5 Quick Tips to Successfully be Healthier

Tip 1. Challenge unhelpful thinking

Before we even go into any actions, it is important to cover your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. They often govern what we do, and help us to form habits (whether good or bad!).

In order to engage and hold long-lasting healthy habits, you need to question your thoughts around them. Do you find yourself thinking ‘Well I can have that slice of cake, because I’m going on a run later’? Do you often justify your unhealthy behaviours by trying to make up from them in healthy behaviours? If so, you may be holding Compensatory Health Beliefs, and you should challenge these beliefs before they bring you down!

Tip 2. Support your future self

In order to be a healthier person all around, you have to plan for the future. And in order to do that you need to hold a perspective of looking ahead, preparing things in advance.

This can come in the form of meal-prepping, or getting your workout clothes out the night before you go on your morning jog. Being healthier means forming healthy habits, that support your future self by preparing ahead of time.

Tip 3. Action Plan to Success!

You may be one of those people who can make sudden changes in your life, on a whim, and be able to stick with it. To be honest with you, I highly doubt that. In order for you to effectively change your behaviours, especially for the long-term, you need to come up with a plan.

By planning out each step of how you are going to achieve your goals, you will have a much easier time achieving them. Circumstances may change overtime, and plans may need to be tweaked slightly. However, you’ll always have something to fall back on when things don’t go the way you want.

Tip 4. Be specific with your health goals

For you to make a plan you need to have a clear idea of your health goals in the first place. By clear I mean specific.

If your health goal is literally “I’m going to be healthier”, I’m sorry but you are setting yourself up for failure. Those who are successful in attaining their health goals have a clear idea of what exactly they need to do. For example, instead of…

I am going to exercise more


I am going to improve my mobility, by doing stretches in the morning, and attending weekly yoga classes

Tip 5. One mistake doesn’t have to become giving up in the long-term

We all fail at some point. That is part of the human experience. But one mistake along your health journey doesn’t mean that we have to give up entirely.

Believe in yourself to achieve your health goals, no matter what hurdles come along the way. Those who become healthier are those who do not give up simply because they cheated on their diet one time, or missed a gym session because of a cold. You get back up on that proverbial horse, and ride that bad boy into the sunset!
